BMI Limitations: BMI does not distinguish between fat mass and muscle mass. Muscular athletes may be classified as overweight or obese despite having low body fat. BMI also does not account for age, sex, or ethnicity. It is a population-level screening tool, not a direct measure of health or body composition.

About BMI

Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated as weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²). It was developed by Adolphe Quetelet in the 1830s as a statistical measure of population weight distribution, not as a clinical diagnostic tool.

For a more complete picture of body composition, consider combining BMI with waist circumference, body fat percentage (Navy method), and other clinical indicators.
